It is a new month, and you know what that means, new horror movies coming to DVD, Netflix and theaters. June is shaping up to be quite the promising month for horror; the list for DVD/Blu-ray releases alone are enough to make your head spin. The theme for this month seems to be “re-releases”- classics being restored. Netflix isn’t offering a lot to horror fans this month and cinema is a bit scant as well, but the titles that are coming are sure to put a smile on any ghoul’s face.
The Abandoned: A disturbed young woman trying to turn her life around takes a night shift job as a security guard at a once upscale, now abandoned apartment complex. On her first night, she discovers that she is not alone and that something very dark may be lurking in the building. Stars: Jason Patric (The Lost Boys) and Louisa Krause (Ava’s Possessions)
The Funhouse Massacre: Six psychopaths escape from a local asylum and unleash terror on an unsuspecting crowd at a Halloween funhouse. The funhouse mazes are all themed after various reigns of terror. Stars: Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Courtney Gains (Children of the Corn) and Clint Howard (Apollo 13)
4K Ultra HD & Blu-ray of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II: These will be available separately. Another remastering of the two iconic films.
The Other Side of the Door: After a woman’s son is killed in an accident, she learns of a ritual which will bring him back to say goodbye, but when she disobeys the warnings, she upsets the balance between life and death. Stars: Sarah Wayne Callies (The Walking Dead) and Jeremy Sisto (Wrong Turn)
The Carrier: An antibiotic-resistant pandemic devastates the planet and the only safe place is in the air. Stars: Edmund Kingsley (Stonehearst Asylum) and James Payton (Spectre)
Dead 7: Post-apocalyptic Western that follows a group of gunslingers looking to rid a small town of a zombie virus. If you were a fan of The Backstreet Boys and/or NSYNC in the 90’s this is a film for you. Stars: Nick Carter, Carrie Keagan (Hustla’s Ball), Joey Fatone and A.J. McLean.
Monsterland: Savage beasts, carnivorous creatures and grotesque abominations are the new normal and humans are at the bottom of the food chain. Stars: Kaspar Ainelo (Curiosity Kills) and Jan Andresson (Rubik’s Cube Terror)
The Offering: Young, successful reporter Jamie finds out that her sister has died. She goes to Singapore in search of answers; what she finds is shocking. There are multiple deaths linked to her sister’s and the cause may be demonic. Stars: Matthew Settle (I Still Know What You Did Last Summer) and Elizabeth Rice (From Within)
Tremors Anthology: Rejoice Tremors fans, all 5 of the films will be available together in one box set.
10 Cloverfield Lane: After surviving a car accident, a young woman is held in a shelter with two men who claim the outside world is contaminated by a widespread chemical attack. Stars: John Goodman (Red State), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (The Thing) and John Gallagher Jr. (Hush)
Collector’s Editions of Jeepers Creepers 1 and 2: In light of a third installment, the previous two Jeepers Creepers films are being released on collector’s edition Blu-ray. They will be sold separately.
Sorceress (Uncensored Director’s Cut): Inspired by Roger Corman, this film was originally released in 1995. Jealous witch Eirca uses her powers to influence her husband Larry and his colleagues who all work at a big law firm. Stars: Linda Blair (The Exorcist), Edward Albert (Galaxy of Terror) and Julie Strain (Battle Queen 2020)
The X-Files: The Event Series: The 6 episode event (season 10) that aired in the US from January 24th - February 22nd.
Evil Exhumed: A man looking for revenge uses dark forces to reanimate a recently unearthed mummy. Stars: Eric Roberts (Lazarus Rising), Aisling Goodman (Sardaar Ji) and James Drew Dean.
Sensoria: A woman in her late 30’s has lost everything and moves into an old apartment and begins noticing that she is not alone. She’s looking for something new and something old is looking for her. Stars: Lanna Ohlsson (Behind Blue Skies) and Norah Anderson.
Lady in White: A widower’s youngest son turns small-town detective to solve a series of spooky murders in the 1960’s. Stars: Lukas Haas (The Revenant), Len Caria (Secret Window) and Alex Rocco (The Godfather)
Dark Awakening: A couple renovate an old home and soon begin seeing the spirits of dead children. Stars: Lance Henriksen (Aliens), Jason Cook (General Hospital) and Valerie Azlynn (Surrogates)
Circus of Fear and Five Golden Dragons Double Feature: Another great release for the classic collectors out there. The double feature will include both films that star the late legendary Christopher Lee.
Ray Harryhausen: Special Effects Titan (Special Edition): A look at Ray Harryhausen’s legendary career featuring interviews from industry greats like Guillermo Del Toro, Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, John Landis and more.
Return of the Killer Tomatoes (Special Edition): Professor Gangreen has developed a way to make tomatoes look human for a second invasion. Stars: George Clooney (Gravity) and John Astin (The Addams Family)
The Girl in the Photographs: A young woman in a sleepy town begins receiving photos of brutally murdered young women. Stars: Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle), Claudia Lee (Kick-Ass 2) and Kenny Wormald (Kid Cannabis)
Hotel Inferno: World’s first POV action horror film. Hitman Frank Zimosa is hired to take out a rich and powerful man. His targets are not the only ones hiding in the hotel. Stars: Rayner Bourton (Outland), Michael Howe (The Hunger) and Jessica Carroll (Ghostcontrol Inc)
Dark Web: A mysterious group creates a sadistic venture of kidnapping young women and auctioning off the right to hunt them. They broadcast the hunts on the dark web for the world to see. Stars: Petra Silander (Virtual Revolution), Oliver Gruner (Nemesis) and Danny Glover (Saw)
The Unborn: A young woman is forced to fight a spirit that is slowly taking possession of her. Stars: Odette Annable (Cloverfield), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises) and Cam Gigandet (The Roommate)
The Conjuring 2: Ed and Lorraine Warren travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house with malicious spirits. Stars: Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel) and Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring)
Therapy for a Vampire: Sigmund Freud's newest patient is a vampire fed up with his undying relationship with his wife. Stars: Tobias Moretti (The Dark Valley), Jeanette Hain (The Young Victoria) and Karl Fischer (Dead in 3 Days)
Clown: A loving father dons a clown outfit and makeup to perform at his son's 6th birthday only to discover that it won't come off. His behavior is turning horrific and he must find a way to break the curse. Stars: Andy Powers (In Her Shoes) and Laura Allen (From Within)
Independence Day: Resurgance: Sequel to 1996's Independence Day. Two decades after the first Independence Day invasion, Earth is faced with a new threat. Will the new space defense be enough? Stars: Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games), Maika Monroe (The 5th Wave) and returning: Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Vivica A. Fox
The Shallows: Nancy is surfing alone on a secluded beach when she is attacked by a great white shark and is stranded just 200 yards from shore. Promising to be the Jaws for a new generation. Stars: Blake Lively (The Age of Adaline) and Oscar Jaenada (Pirates of he Caribbean: On Stranger Tides)
