Last Friday we here at TerrorThreads decided to go see the new thriller/horror movie “Split" from the creative mind of M. Night Shyamalan. “Split” is a thought provoking, pulse-pounding thriller that takes you on a terrifying journey through the mind of a menacing, and very real villain. The film centers around an abduction of three teenage girls by a seemingly sick and twisted individual, portrayed brilliantly by James McAvoy, we are soon made aware however that there is a much more sinister plan at work here. The audience learns McAvoy's character suffers from dissociative identity disorder, and he copes with having 23 personalities living inside of him. We see him portray these incredibly different personalities leaving the viewer enthralled throughout the film as to what his true intentions are, the purpose of the abductions as well as questioning who oversees his body. While “Split” doesn’t have the gore or any over the top kill scenes you would expect from a traditional horror movie, we feel it was not needed. The story told throughout the film is enough to send chills down your spine as you uncover more about the coming danger the kidnaped teens face, as well as a horrific backstory for one of the unlucky young ladies. We have no problem in saying we were captivated from beginning to end, and left the theater felling fulfilled and pleased with the film. If you enjoy a psychological thriller this is one movie you don't want to miss!
